Learn how dancing is not just for dancers with Kathryn Roman, Stephanie Larson and Nina Petteys
Kathryn Roman of Denver Natural Mom has a marketing background and became passionate about birth after the birth of her daughter. She is not a dancer, but she is a crossfit nut! Today, she interviewed founder, Stephanie Larson and designer and certified instructor, Nina Petteys. Kathryn has paved the way in the Denver area for natural moms to find local resources through her Expos, her blog, this live interview series, and most recently her meet ups. Each Expo exposes parents to family resources in the area and she’s looking to go on tour with Expos, so look for her in your town in the future. Contact her to hear about other upcoming interviews.
Now that she is expecting her second child, she has made the jump to living life of the Denver Natural Mom! She has a unique perspective as a business woman and a mom with connections to the birth and parenting worlds. Her goal is to connect women to all the education, support and resources they need. Kathryn is a runner and not a dancer, but has discovered Dancing For Birth™ to be an approachable fitness, support and education resource that is gentle on the body through the perinatal process. She realized dancing is not just for dancers, but it could be for her while she’s pregnant! Crossfit, running, and other intensive exercises are hard on the body, but dancing is gentle, intuitive and rewarding through pregnancy and labor…even postpartum when you’re swaying with your baby. You don’t have to have any dance experience, just move and trust your body. Women report feeling more confident about their birth experiences after Dancing For Birth™ classes.
ACOG recommends “at least 30 minutes on most days, if not all, days of the week” to benefit your health during pregnancy. Not only can you reduce pain and swelling, it can prevent or treat gestational diabetes, increase energy, mood and posture, improve muscle tone, strength and endurance (which you’ll need in labor!) and will help you get more restful sleep.
Dancing For Birth™ was designed specifically for people in the perinatal process. This means that it was designed to help keep people fit, supported and educated from pre-conception through the postpartum period. Support includes affirmations and inspirations focused on the labor process and body confidence, trust and love. Join a group of people going through the process to offer insight on their journey and share their process. Instructors are birth professionals that can offer childbirth education and explain the benefits of dancing. There are even specific movements to help mal-positioned babies. Are you ready to give it a try? Come to the free demo class March 13th at 10 am at Soulshine Family Wellness Center 1705 S. Pearl St., Denver, CO 80210. If you’re not in the Denver area, check the class locator for your area.
